The Media believes Detective Randall McClellan, ‘Rand’, of the Maryland State Police shot Sid Edmonston to get revenge for the death of his partner, Richard Francis. His fellow officer believes that he should take a long administrative leave to cope over matters. However, the vacation away from work will have to wait when he learns that a young patrol cop by the name of Maxine Wallace has been killed only causing more grief.
Echo Sloane is beside herself when she cannot locate her brother, Bray. Even more so, when she learns that because of a security breach, the detective assigned to him believes he may have had a hand in the chemical explosion. When her little daughter, Zoe, is kidnapped, she has no choice but to put her faith in Detective McClellan.
Rand is bothered when another officer is killed in the line of duty on the case they were working. It was hard when his partner was killed but now Maxine, a young woman that was full of life, and is now dead, was too much to bear. He has to pull all stops to find out who is behind this. After another explosion takes place and a woman’s brother is missing, Rand wonders could his disappearance mean he was involved. Echo is beautiful and her little daughter is as sweet as a button but in no time, Echo is pulled into the weave of pandemonium and when her daughter is kidnapped, she turns to Rand for help in the search. When she first met Rand, he seemed so emotionless but now she needs his assistance but she needs to be a part of the search. He does not wish her involved because he cares for her and does not want anything to happen to her. He would not be able to handle the guilt of losing someone else. As the hunt grows closer for Zoe as well as Bray, things begin to heat up between Rand and Echo. He has fallen heads over heels in love with her and Zoe, and once he gives his heart to a woman, it is for life.
Special mental abilities, powers to get one out of a jam, twists and turns that keep the reader spellbound from the beginning, Critical Exposure is one page-turner. I absolutely fell in love with Rand, Echo and baby Zoe. My heart ached when Echo could not find her child and wondered how Zoe was doing, if she was hungry, cold or missing her mother. What a leap to the heart. Ms Peterson instills emotions in this read that has the reader on the edge of their seat. She took a brave heroine and a compassionate hero and spun a tale that hypnotizes and has the reader rooting for Rand and Echo to work out their differences and unite as one fantastic couple. With a cast of in-depth secondary characters, this one extraordinary read made me feel their pain, joy, and complete emotions.
