Hannah Swenson is a bakery owner who turns out some fabulous sweets. When her mother plans a book launch party and Hannah cannot fit into the dress for the event, it’s time to head to the gym. With the help of her sister, Andrea, things really turn lively.

Lisa Herman is Hannah’s partner at the Cookie Jar. She does not care for people who try to take advantage of Hannah’s good nature.

Mike Kensington is chief detective to Hannah’s sisters, husband, Bill Todd, county sheriff. He is also Hannah’s sometime boyfriend.

Hannah likes Mike and always prepares the cream puffs he fancies. Mike loves her pastries so much he even considers proffering her a marriage proposal. Then there is Norman, a dentist, who replaced one of her fillings for free. Hannah thinks he is pretty nice, too. Her good friend, and partner, Lisa, always steps in to make sure Hannah is not hurt by either one. When a murder takes place, with Mike as a possible suspect, Hannah searches for any evidence to make sure he is completely innocent. As she searches for clues, while struggling on the strict diet, it seems that the more pounds Hannah loses, the more clues she gathers as the mystery unravels.

Cream Puff Murder is such an entertaining read. I love how the characters are so life-like. Hannah is like anyone else, especially when she confides to Andrea about dieting and losing weight. I loved their conversations on the matter, especially when Hannah knows Andrea is going to crack down the hammer for her to get into the dress for the party. The sisters are great together. I adored the part about the pepperoni pizza, and the candy bars. I could identify with Hannah in many ways. The exercise episodes are hilarious. I really like Joanne Fluke’s flare for writing and the way she spins the right dialogue to keep the story moving at a great pace. She gives the readers some delicious confectionaries, as a bonus, making the read even sweeter.
