Cutter Martin was a Navy SEAL, a warrior among warriors until an injury pulled him from the line of duty. Now he is back in Texas with thoughts of finding a civilian job at the top of his to-do list.
Linney Kingston had a five-day affair with Cutter years ago. Then she left him to marry a much older and wealthier man. Now she is back with a story that seems a little too bizarre to be true.
It seems Linney’s good friend died the week before, leaving an abusive husband and a three-year-old daughter behind. Linney suspects foul play by the husband, who just happens to be a detective in the homicide division. Taking matters into her own hands, she kidnaps her friend’s daughter and runs for help to Cutter, who wants her to go to the local cops. Not wanting to risk the child, Linney runs with Cutter following, as well as someone who is willing to kill to stop her from finding out the truth of what happened to her friend.
Cowboy Commando is the story of past lovers who must work together to solve a suspicious accidental death. Ms. Wayne gives us Cutter, an injured hero who cannot leave his warrior spirit behind in the battlefield, as well as Linney, a woman determined to find justice for her friend. The story starts out with a great beginning but from there it tapers in and out, not always holding my interest. This novel does have some good points; the danger reaches pinnacle heights and the killer was a shock, not being who I thought it would be. With some really great action moments and some less than stellar moments as well, this story was just an okay read for me, contradictory in that at times this book could be considered forgettable and at other moments I did not want to put it down.
