Louisa Schmetterling is a German refugee who was smuggled out of Nazi occupied Germany during World War II. She had a Jewish father and a Christian mother and was raised as a Christian. Working in the Resistance to overthrow Hitler, it was deemed time for her to escape before she was captured or killed.

Robert Gordon is a Presbyterian minister and divorced single father. He is the sponsor for Louisa, to let her live out the war in relative peace. He learns that sometimes it only takes one person to make a difference, he quotes, "Each time someone does the right thing, it changes the course of evil."

This is the story of Copper Springs, AZ when the war shortages made copper mining invaluable during the Second World War. This Bible versed tale gives us defining reasons of why things happen and how we believe in God and our faith can bring about real changes.

I read this and envisioned a WWII movie playing out before me, the characters are so real and that you are actually there. It brings together a man struggling with his faith and a woman fighting to survive and what they can both bring to each other. Nazis were not only in Germany but also in our own land at this time. This book shows us that even small towns can harbor enemy agents, saboteurs and traitors. This is a must read for everyone of regardless of faith. The last line says it all, “And as dark as the night can get, and it can get very dark, indeed, the sun will rise and expose the day.” Good does triumph over evil in the end that is how wars get stopped, we have to have faith and hope in our hearts, that we can prevail.
