Nadia wants to take a break from it all and go on a trip to India. She is not sure what she will find but she does not want to do things the way a tourist might. She would like to see the real India, good and bad. She just wishes her best friend had come along because now she has no clue how the trip will go. Plus getting her mom to deviate off the normal path may not be an easy task. She wants some adventure and to enjoy life to the fullest. She is completely unsure how that will happen with her mom around.
Valerie has been married for twenty-five years and getting a divorce seems to finally give her the break she needs. She also needs something new to focus on. When her daughter invites her to come along on a trip to India, she quickly agrees. Knowing that her daughter could change her mind, she took the chance while it was there. Needing to feel like a woman again may present some opportunities she never thought possible. She must remain open to whatever could happen. It might just make her look at life in a different way. But can it really do something or will she still be stuck in her ways?
Arriving in India, Nadia sees immediately how different she and her mom think when it comes to a place to stay. She gets upset with her mom even though the luxurious life can be nice from time to time. Nadia also sees a different side of her mom appear and she is frustrated that she is not quite as free. She has a plan in mind for where to go and to stay. Her mom does not understand and wants to do things at a drop of a hat. Valerie is embracing every chance she can get. She knows she may not travel like this again and wants to enjoy every minute wherever she finds herself. Both women have some searching to do and maybe this trip will help them realize what they truly want in their lives. It will be a journey neither will ever forget.
Ms. Williams has a wonderful romp of a story in this book. At times, I could not believe what Valerie, the mom, is able to do and how free she found herself in the bedroom. While, Nadia is so confused about things and where she is in her life. I loved seeing both women change throughout the story. It was incredible to watch them figure out what they wanted. I was both surprised and pleased with the ending. This coming of age story differs from most because it involves more than one person. I would love to see what else this author has written because this one sure got me curious.
