Chase Dagger is a private investigator with a very sketchy history. He knows that eventually his past will catch up with him, unless he figures it out first. The only real and true thing in his life is Sara, and he will do everything in his power to keep her safe.

Sara Morningsky is finally living her life without constant fear and insecurity. She owes that all to Dagger, and whether he likes it or not, he needs her as much as she needs him. He is her only confidant, no other person in her life knows her secret.

Dagger is once again caught in the whirlwind of a bizarre and deadly game. The players seem to have come out of nowhere, and the deeper he digs the stranger it gets. The chilling realization that BettaTec could be honing in on him again leaves him filled with dread. Dagger is certain that if they find him, Sara will be in grave danger. He discovers another link to his past and takes off to investigate. Sara is hot on his heels, and knowing Dagger, she better catch up to him quick. He has a tendency to leap before he looks, and she is determined to save his hide, even if he cannot admit that he needs her. They have a connection that neither are ready to admit nor explore, but the thought of losing each other is indescribable.

This story is a fascinating blend of mystery and science fiction. Secret government projects, super soldiers, and high tech toys are brilliantly used to develop a storyline that holds your attention right through until the end. Dagger is a very conflicted character; you really want to get into his head and know what he is feeling. Sara is so young and vulnerable emotionally, but intellectually she is very much Daggers’ equal. The relationship they share is one of friendship and caring, but the potential for more is on the horizon. This story stands alone as a great read, but I really recommend reading the whole series. I look forward to learning more of Dagger’s past, as well as hoping for a future between him and Sara.
