Lilly Darnell is a chef and the wife of security expert Gage Darnell. Lilly is not particularly happy with her husband at the moment since he has been gone from their home for weeks, and just recently cancelled out on their scheduled weekend together.

Gage loves Lilly, but he cannot help feeling as though he has something to prove to her, her parents, and himself. Since Lilly comes from wealth and her parents did not want her to marry him, he feels compelled to prove them wrong. However, Gage has gone about this in a less than satisfactory way, according to Lilly. Gage owns and operates a security company with his best friend, and their recent contract is for a company that is working on top secret defense contracts. He feels he must be onsite most of the time to be sure everything runs smoothly. He does not like to delegate work.

When Gage hears an alarm go off in the middle of his phone call with Lilly canceling their weekend date, he hangs up on her to find out why. He enters a lab where an explosion and fumes cause him to pass out. When he comes to in a mental hospital, he is kept drugged the entire time and knows something is seriously wrong. Desperate to get back to Lilly, he finally escapes, only to discover he is wanted for murder and that his own wife thinks he may be guilty. He finds himself in a race against both time and the would-be assassin to convince his wife of his innocence, get her help, catch the killer, and save his marriage.

I read this book in one sitting! It had me on the edge of my seat the entire time trying to figure out if Gage and Lilly were going to be able to survive the diabolical plan the killer had set up. I enjoyed reading this book tremendously. Ms. York makes the characters jump right off the pages; Lilly’s reaction to Gage when she finds him in their home after he escapes is very realistic. The characters’ emotions are well written and easy to relate to and feel. The suspense builds from the very first page and does not stop until you have read the last word. If you enjoy romantic suspense, then this book is the book for you!
