After a freak accident robs Marianna of her profession as a concert violinist, she retreats to a small home in a little town to start a new life. The choice of residence was not accidental, however. She had heard rumors that the ghost of her favorite composer lurked in the house, and she hoped to meet him. Fredrick turns out to be a most compassionate non-corporeal companion.

Neighbor Mike Sorensen is coming home to lick his wounds from yet another failed relationship and stops to visit an old friend. When a beautiful woman comes to the door instead, he ignores his misgivings and sits down for a drink. Mike is definitely attracted to Marianna, but his track record has shown him he is not great at the relationship game.

After a passionate encounter, these to lonely hearts realize both their attraction to each other and their trepidation in exploring something more meaningful. But, with a semi-transparent melodious matchmaker hovering around, they may just get the nudge they need to push fear aside and create their own beautiful music.

Catching the Muse combines a morsel of music with a pinch of the paranormal and creates an appetizing little tale of loss and redemption. I liked the premise of the story, and the three main characters were interesting in both their flaws and fortes. My only issue with it was that Sarah Dickson peaked my interest in the story then ended it and left me wanting more. This short is a nice introduction to a blossoming romance I hope Ms. Dickson continues to explore in further works.
