Cassie Livingston’s father is suddenly taken ill and rushed into hospital. A journalist, Cassie is unexpectedly thrust into taking care of running her father’s business affairs at his Newmarket stables. An Arabian business prospect arrives a day earlier than his scheduled appointment and, not banking on taking on the affairs of the heart, Cassie is captivated.

Sheikh of Araby, Kasim al bin Ahmed researches stables for his uncles’ prized horses and spots a prized beauty in Cassie. A magazine featured a controversial story about a member of his family, prejudicing Kasim’s opinions about the magazine. Kasim learns that Cassie is a writer for the magazine and automatically assumes an unfavourable opinion of her.

Kasim makes his thoughts about his dislike for the magazine and its associates known to his confidante and lawyer, Ben Harrison. Ben informs Kasim that he is wrong about Cassie. Kasim soon discovers that Ben is right. As a precautionary measure, Kasim installs a sophisticated security system at the stables. A disgruntled ex-employee, unaware of the security, returns during the night to steal a horse. Cassie confronts the horse thief, puts up a good fight protecting the property and sustains slight injuries in the process. Cassie’s astuteness saves the day again, when she notices, where Kasim’s staff failed when they were delivering his horse to the stables, that she was distressed and close to giving birth to her foal.

I loved the characters of the dashing Sheikh Kasim and the young, intelligent, Cassie. Cassie‘s parents are very likeable and supportive of each other. A past tragedy in Kasim’s family brings a measure of compassion and intrigue to the story. Cassie and Kasim complement each other well in this delightful story. I enjoyed losing myself in the story, page for page. I have no doubt in recommending this author.
