CALL OF THE CLAN

Brynne is not having the best of days. She has just wrecked her car and lost her job. She needs that salary to pay for her apartment and various bills. Then a letter comes from Scotland about an inheritance from the father she never met.
Cayden Spalding’s family has been protecting the Murray for centuries and he is the current protector. Jamie Murray’s daughter from America has arrived, just for the inheritance of course, and though she is very attractive he is not going to get involved with someone who will be leaving in a year.
Brynne Murray Marlette inherits Kilgraeme, a castle and estate in Scotland. Though she has no intention of staying, the place quickly becomes part of her. The two handsome men vying for attention does not hurt. There is danger in the air also. Her father’s death might not have been accidental and two other murders certainly make her doubt her decision to stay.
I really enjoyed this story. Brynne is a fish out of water at Kilgraeme at first, but her organizational skills and curiosity about her heritage quickly win the people over, except for the skeptical Cayden. The attorney, Evan, is very handsome and attentive but one never gets the feeling that he really has any deep feelings for anything. Cayden on the other hand is the total opposite and very, very sexy. Mrs. Much and her admirer added a lot of color, and the Trish McGregor character was an annoying parasite. I could not understand why Brynne did not send her packing. The murder mystery was very suspenseful and I loved the parallel story of the Murrays and Spaldings of the past, and the way Will and Catherine’s story linked to Cayden and Brynne’s. The author does a great job with the plot, setting, and characters. I loved the descriptions of the Gathering and the Council.
