Lauren Parish is a witch. She does not realize until after a television interview just how much danger she has put her clan in from the witch hunting society, The Order. When she finds out that a man she had a fling with one weekend in Las Vegas has gone to her apartment after she barely escaped with her own life, she knows he is in danger as well.

Carson McCullen is excited to finally have a way of contacting Lauren again. He still cannot believe that she had lied to him about her name and her job. As soon as he tells her that he went inside her apartment, his life is turned upside down. He just does not know how much Lauren will help him to discover his true self and the purpose of his life.

Lauren does everything within her power to keep the physical distance between her and Carson. If a mortal has sex with a witch, they become addicted to them and she does not want that to happen to him. Running to her cousin, he disapproves of her bringing a mortal into their underground network but allows him to live, for now. When Lauren is shot and believed dead, Carson tries to go back to his old life, knowing that nothing will help him. Will he see Lauren again, and if so, will he be able to protect her?

An amazing and intense read. The connection between the characters is truly powerful. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting. I was captivated by the differences between the two characters and their passion for each other as well. Ms. Sobrato also brings to light how racism affects everyone and how deeply it hurts. I loved Lauren as she shows true courage by standing up against the rules that society forces on her. Carson is just as determined and comes across as a powerful partner to Lauren. Ms. Sobrato has won me over and I look forward to reading more books from her in the future.
