Breena Murphy is a woman with ill-conceived notions. She linked buttered toast to bad things happening because every time she ate it, bad things seemed to happen. She was so surprised when she ended up in the world of Cake. Breena must figure out who she is, as well as how she fits into this new world.

Ruination wants no part of the deal he made with the King, even though he knew the pact was binding. In his mind, he was a failure and not worth anyone’s time. He has kept his feelings hidden a long time, but is now intrigued at meeting the next woman in line for the throne.

Breena enters the world of Cake unsure how she even got there. With the help of Rune, she must find a family she never knew existed. Struggling through all the challenges, Breena falls in love with Rune, but doubts he will return her affection. She must learn to deal with the task at hand and ignore her feelings. If she is unable to do this, the land she has found could be in serious jeopardy.

The story is full of myths and fiction with Arthur and Camelot at the front. I was thoroughly pleased with the new way Ms. Keratsis laid out the world, and fascinated by Breena’s journey. Rune and Breena share a deeply felt connection that is not to be taken lightly. All the characters have their place; even Villain, who wants all the power. Keeping her eye on her goal to learn the truth helps Breena through it all. The journey has all kinds of emotions expressed and fulfilled.
