Sarah Murphy has had a rough life. More than once, she has decided not to go on a date with a man. Her best friend Ellen thinks she is over reacting, but Sarah sticks to her convictions and stays focused on her job as a police dispatcher. That is her favorite way to give back to her community.

Dylan Eldredge serves with his heart. He loves his job as police lieutenant and only sees himself doing this job. He wants someone to share his life, but Sarah surprises him. He has no idea of the challenge he has before him.

Sarah is often asked to help train police officers and it is something she enjoys doing. When she walks into the classroom, she stares at the man talking to the police officers. When he turns to her and smiles, Sarah gets butterflies in her stomach and becomes confused. She decides to distance herself from the lieutenant, but he has other ideas. Dylan places a bet with his best friend Matt that he is going to have a ring on Sarah’s finger in a year. Both Sarah and Dylan have obstacles to overcome before they even get to a second date. Are they strong enough to make a lifetime commitment?

Ms. Carter writes a wonderful, inspirational story that I enjoyed immensely. Books like this can often be predictable, but this one flowed beautifully. Dylan and Sarah are an amazing couple, not only for Dylan’s perseverance, but also for Sarah’s willingness to keep trying. She is hesitant, yet there has to be some change to make the story readable. I was elated with the ending and with the fully developed characters, warts and all. It made for a very relatable story!
