Max Brady was a police detective and a federal prosecutor in his former life. The death of his beloved wife in the Twin Towers left him with no desire to pursue either profession. A near death experience has brought him back to his childhood home of Fort Lauderdale and a new career as a bar owner.
Rose Becker is the owner of the Papillon Gym and studies butterflies. Opposed to the overdevelopment in her hometown, she is running for mayor and trying to expose the corruption ruining the city she loves.
Developers are determined to grab every bit of beach front in Ft. Lauderdale. High rise hotels and condos are growing everywhere and small motel and business owners are being forced to sell. Arson and murder are not out of the question. When his friends are targeted, Max Brady’s detective instincts tell him to get to the bottom of the story and to find out who is responsible.
This is a well-written detective story with quirky characters, an appealing location, and a topical plot. Developers always make good villains. The book is geared towards male readers, evidenced by the dialogue and Brady’s “bikini runs”, but will appeal to all readers of suspense. The author does a good job of building the tension, and the addition of a hurricane helps this along. The subplots of Brady’s romance with the mayoral candidate and the adventures of Adonis Rock make things even more interesting.
