In the year 2077, on the run from unknown hunters, Cyan Seye is a rare breed. The only existing pretty, blue eyed Caucasian, Cyan is being protected by Devin McCrae. The handsome Mulatto, Devin McCrae is committed to deliver Cyan to a place named Betatakin. He was chosen for the role, by Cyan’s dying father, to get her there alive. Devin willingly protects Cyan at all costs. He is keeping her from being turned over to the authorities where she risks being sold to high-end sex slavers or scientists working for the government.

Devin and Cyan are dodging bullets, pellets and ducking away from the beams of laser guns. They are covered in dirt and fugitives on the run, hiding in caves and cheap hotels. They disguise Cyan’s blue-eyes by having her wear specially contact lens. Cyan experiences fear and terror, being hunted by slayers, while on the other hand, is being protected by a murderer. Outnumbered, the deadly pursuers are steadily catching up with them, getting closer.

This is an action packed book by Maddie James where she weaves many thrilling components into the story. I enjoyed being taken through the gradual changes of Cyan and Devin’s characters borne out of the inevitable fact that they were at risk and hunted. In addition, culminating in the need for them having to look out for and trust each other. I did find though a few passages that were a little obscure and confusing. However, an interesting twist completes the story with Cyan adjusting to her deadly plight.
