Maddie is tired of the men of London only seeing her dowry when they see her. If only one of them knew anything about her she would gladly give up her membership in the Spinster’s Club, but now she is forced to take matters into her own hands.
Jack, Lord Blackthorne is tired of his brother’s ill-conceived antics, and his latest insult to the Duke of Bleven just might get them both killed.
Maddie’s well planned elopement turns into a fiasco when she is joined by first her friend, Ashley, and then Lord Blackthorne and his brother, Nick. If she survives, her well ordered life will never be the same.
I loved this hilarious romp of a romance. Maddie is the quietest of the spinsters and dedicated to her charities, but her status as the only daughter of the wealthy Earl of Castleigh makes her the target of every fortune hunter and social climber in London. Her solution to marry the boring and predictable Mr. Dover seems perfect until everything, and I do mean everything, goes wrong. Ashley and Nick are loose cannons and magnets for trouble. Jack is a wonderful hero; handsome, sexy, and best of all, not perfect. He is not an expert shot, he has a temper, and he blames himself for his mother’s death. He also does not believe in love, until he meets Maddie. The two of them drive each other crazy (I loved the bear), but are determined to protect each other. Bleven is one of the most evil villains I have encountered and it is touch and go at times whether he will succeed in his revenge. The author has provided a very exciting plot with many twists and turns, exciting love scenes, lots of humor, and a nerve-wracking climax. What a great story, I just could not put it down.
