Lady Bertie has a twin sister, Bessie, who wishes to attend the circus. Bertie could care less but tags along. Bessie pulls Bertie into seeing the fortune teller where she learns she will find treasure. Bertie has secretly loved Sean since she first saw him.
Sean Conner Carruthers Brett has a certain charm that reaches Bertie. However, an episode at the circus seems to push them away. He joins the army and word spreads of his bravery in the wars with Napoleon. It is years before he is reunited with the woman he loves.
While attending the circus, Bertie visits the fortune teller who gives her some unbelievable, enlightening news. Afterwards she becomes upset when she sees a huge blond creature, but then learns it was a prank. She records it in her diary and even five years later still recalls the event. The prank had been humiliating and embarrassing, and the man she adored played the buffoon. She hears that Sean, her sweet nemesis, joined the army. When the two are reunited years later they try to piece together what they missed. However, the more Bertie is with Sean, her thoughts are reminded of the treasure.
Bertie’s Golden Treasure is such an enchanting read. To fully tell the meeting with Bertie and the fortune teller is like opening up and telling the audience the whole plot of the storyline. One must grab this book and read for themselves the breathtaking adventure of Bertie, Sean, and the others. Hetty St. James weaves a regency story that explores so much depth to the distinctive characters. With such superb dialogue, and some wit to boot, this romance is wonderfully refreshing. It spins a thread of love inside the reader’s heart.
