Kate is pregnant and interviewing candidates for the position of father. The biological father is not a viable candidate because he is never around. After the childhood she suffered, she is determined that any man her child calls Dad will be dependable and available.
Patrick Berzani is the biological father of Kate’s baby. He is a sailor at heart, which means he is often gone to the next great race. He is determined that he will be the only candidate for the role of Kate’s husband and their child’s father.
Kate has had no contact with Patrick in the three months he has been away at a race. She has given up on their relationship and has begun to search for the man to be the father of her child. Patrick is equally determined that he will be that man.
Kate is a wonderful depiction of the sacrifices a mother will make for her baby. Lisa Ruff beautifully conveys, on paper, a mother’s love for her baby with a living, breathing emotion. The talented writing abilities of the author show the parental anguish experienced when doing what she thinks is best for her child. I fell in love with the characters from the very start and sympathized with the choices Patrick had to face. I laughed out loud at some of the things he did to try and get Kate to see things his way. Lisa Ruff is a talented writer who expertly depicts emotion through the written word.
