A WOMAN TO BLAME
Rating: 4 Cups
Gin Ritchey is a fifty-four-year-old retired college professor and part-time private eye. She resides on her boat, Blue Jasmine, in southern Florida and spends most of her days relaxing in the Florida sun. Most recently the highlight of her life has been the love life of one Dominni Rossano.
Dominni Rossano, a.k.a, Nick has been the talk of the resort with his new relationship with a woman a third his age and the talk continues with his death. Nick is a widower and has been single for a short time when he meets Agnes Stierholz, a.k.a, Bunny on the first day of his vacation in Florida.
Bunny is not the dense woman everyone thinks her to be, and she knows something is wrong with the circumstances of Nick’s death. She asks Gin to help her figure out what happened to Nick and who was responsible.
Marthanne Shubert skillfully masked the killer’s identity until the very end when she almost sprung the identity on the reader. The main character, Gin, is a very strong character with a well developed sense of humor and personality. I loved how she made Bunny a bimbo but not a stupid one. I thoroughly enjoyed the writing style of the author and aside from a few parts of the story being slow, she pens an excellent mystery.
