AVENGING ANGEL, A SHANNON WALLACE MYSTERY
Red Rose Publishing
Rating: 3 Cups
Shannon Wallace was raised by two aunts after her parent’s death. She went to junior college for one year and really has not found herself yet. She is devastated to be dumped and fired by her boyfriend/boss Rick.
Dwayne Brown is skinny, black, and gay, but has no artistic talents. He is one of Shannon’s best friends and an aspiring private investigator.
After being fired and dumped by the fine Rick Fine, the last thing Shannon needs is to be accused of his murder or find out that some very private DVD’s are missing from his apartment. She also has some history with the detective in charge of the case; she and Sal Ramirez go way back. She feels she has to solve the case herself with her buddy Dwayne’s help.
This is a pretty good first effort from Ms. Smith. The characters are quirky and the plot is full of twists and turns with a bit of humor thrown in. I loved Dwayne and the Mamas, and her romantic tension with Sal adds a bit of spice to the plot. Shannon and her determination make this a story well worth reading.
