Autumn Crossroads by Cheryl N. Warner, is a contemporary "chick-lit" about an interesting and intelligent woman trying to make a major jump in her career while
worried about not having a relationship with a good man.
Shortly after a broken engagement, Casey Wells moved from Georgia to Los Angeles,
accepting a dream job in public relations. After working with Val, a megalomaniac boss
with a surprisingly endearing side, she gets to meet a handsome and interesting pilot,
Shawn Lafferty. Shawn is one of the people who will stand up to Val, and he's
immediately fascinated by Casey. When he bets her five thousand dollars she cannot
have a romantic relationship while working for Val, she not only accepts the challenge,
but is determined to have everything she wants.
Casey is one of the most empathetic contemporary women I have read in a long time.
She is smart, driven, and confused about her love life versus a career. She also has an
endearing awareness of her flaws and readers will enjoy how her character develops.
Relationships are definitely the focus of the Autumn Crossroads, with the characters'
growth and their reaction to change the best part of the book. While the secondary
characters are followed in-depth, they fit into the main story well. The public relations
background was interesting without becoming a tutorial.
Autumn Crossroads has most of the requirements of a good mainstream contemporary. Characters are people we want to know and the settings are realistic, making Cheryl N.
Warner's latest a definite mainstream keeper.
