Callan is a 34-year-old divorcee with an 11-year-old son. She is also a clairvoyant. An
evil sorceress called the Gull is after her. With the help of an old boyfriend, Sam, and
two new friends, psychic Rosemary and psychiatrist, Albert, she trains and increases
her powers to fight the evil being who has blighted her life since childhood.
Dr. Sam Cavendar was Callan’s childhood sweetheart until he moved away at age
seventeen. At that point, he inexplicably lost contact with Callan who went on to have a
disastrous marriage. He reconnects with Callan when his partner’s good friend
Rosemary alerts them to the danger that the Gull poses to Callan.
The Gull, known as Bianca, is a master criminal who has been trying to turn Callan to her
ways since her youth. Now she will stop at nothing to make Callan her psychic slave and
to make her an integral part of her illegal business, both psychic and in the real world.
Sam and Callan, in the meantime, are trying to recapture the love they had for each
other in childhood. Unfortunately, Bianca will let nothing get in the way of her goals and
is willing to destroy all that Callan holds dear to achieve her objective.
Ms. Stone has created a very vivid world where psychic beings are not all that unusual.
Her descriptions of astral projection and the astral plane are particularly vivid and
beautiful. The supporting characters are very well drawn and really add to the story. I
especially liked the character of Stephanie. Sam and Callie’s love story was very
involving, as was the whole story. I read it all in one sitting. I can never get enough of the
story of good triumphing over evil and this is a particularly good example of that.
