Abby’s parents say she must marry or be shamed by having not married and becoming a spinster. She soon finds out that her mother has betrothed her to an old friend’s son who is to be the new vicar. She feels utterly betrayed and tries to make him not want to ask for her hand. Only what she soon finds out is sometimes God has a different plan then our own.
Edwin too is annoyed that people are running his life and he is to become a vicar and choose a sensible wife. Finding out about the betrothal he is upset but will do as his mother wishes, as he is a man of his word. Yet when he meets Abby there is just something about her that intrigues him.
Shortly after meeting and forming a friendship, tragedy strikes in the Stanway household and before he takes the place as the new vicar he must go home to help his family; Thus altering the expected marriage. Has fate played another cruel joke on this couple who have not even had a chance to explore their budding feelings for each other or is this part of a greater plan?
This was a sweet romantic read. Abby and Edwin are so alike yet so different. They just seem to fit together so well, you so want them to beat the obstacles that are in their way. I enjoyed the way Ms. Cartwright takes you on a journey back in time to show a very different world from modern day and lets you stay within through out the story. I look forward to reading the sequel with Abby’s sister Constance’s story.
