A ROGUE’S REWARD
Amber Quill Press
Rating: 4 Cups
Rhea Galant was raised in a convent and was released or kidnapped by the pirate captain Fallon Robards. She longs for a larger life than the sisters offered.
Sheppard York is the youngest son of Lord York, a brutal governor. He never dreamed that a night of drinking by the docks would lead to his kidnapping, or that his jailor would be so beautiful.
The crew of the pirate ship Gabrielle is all female, and their captain is the notorious Fallon Robards. They get more--and less--than they expected when they kidnap Sheppard York. Quiet Rhea is charged with his care and the convent-raised girl quickly falls for her aristocratic prisoner. Their romance leads to danger and pain as well as pleasure.
This story has an interesting and unusual concept; an all woman crew. The captain is a bit of a Robin Hood, kidnapping an aristocrat to extort money from his brutal father. Her origins as well as Rhea’s are a mystery. The other members of the crew are not so likable, especially the first mate Ette and the cook, Ava. The descriptions of the ship and its conditions are very vivid; the reader will be able to visualize it. The two main characters are very likable, though an unlikely pairing, and their romance is rocky to say the least. The escape attempt is a particularly suspenseful scene. I definitely enjoyed this story.
