Fiona Fairweather is an orphan who has lived with her aunt the past six years. She has been betrothed to her best friend, Roger, since they were small children. She believes that everything will turn out fine, until she meets Lord Rocheford, Walter Pettigrew.
Walter Pettigrew, Lord Rocheford, is anything but ready to marry. Then Fiona waltzes into his life and catches him with his guard down. Fighting himself and constantly reminding himself that Fiona is spoken for does not help. Can he change her mind and win her heart?
As Fiona grows into a young woman, her feelings for Roger change. She is no longer certain she wants to marry him, but must honor her parents' wishes. Roger feels the same and is determined to change his future. When Fiona's aunt passes away, Walter offers to bring her to London for her wedding, against his own good sense. He knows spending time with her will only make him want her more. Upon her arrival in London, things take a turn for the worse and she realizes she may have thrown away her one chance of true happiness.
I read this in one sitting. This is a book I could not put down. Ms. Grady brings the spitfire that is Fiona into being. Walter is a man who is if nothing else, persistent and willing to go to any lengths to have her. The secondary characters are just as imaginative and Ms. Grady shows us what London in the 1800's would have been like with more wit. An excellent read if you love historical romances.
