Being awakened up by thieves is not an ideal moment for Laurie. She has no choice but to work through problems and learn how to survive. That is where Damien comes in. He has the skills to teach her what she needs to learn to protect herself and Stacy. Laurie refuses to do anything at first, but soon realizes that she has no other option. Will their hearts survive without being broken?

Finding that one is living out a romance novel is a surprise that takes a moment or two to understand. Ms. Bruening is able to project that in her book and I found it fascinating. Having a family member involved in illegal operations is not an everyday event for most people. Still, I found the story to be realistic and heart pounding and could not get enough of Damien and Laurie. I understood where they were coming from and hoped that they would realize how much they needed each other and fast.
