Kelly was abducted by a pedophile and held for many months until she finally escaped. With no therapy and little support from her family, she has still managed to make a life, lonely though it might be, for herself in Chicago.
Sandy has never forgotten the brave little girl he found under the train trestle on his sixteenth birthday. He is a musician and manages a bookstore, but other than a platonic one with his roommate and old friend Lola, he really has no steady relationships with women.
Fourteen years after she escaped from a madman, he has found her again. Kelly wants to run away, but she has established a life for herself and for the first time, a friendship leading to something more with the man who found her all those years ago. She must be brave enough to face the ghosts of her past and the real threat in the present.
Ms. Michel has written an edge of the seat suspense tale that kept me up very late. I just could not put it down. The two main characters are wonderfully written and seem so real that I felt I knew them. The plot is fast moving with many interesting twists and turns, and the ending is very surprising, but logical once I thought about it. The supporting characters are equally vivid, especially Sandy’s friend Lola and Officer Ellis. The fugitive pedophile is frighteningly horrible. If you like a suspenseful novel with twists and turns and a good romance also, this is a good choice.
