Claire Stuart is the niece of the deposed king and is fighting to put him back on the throne. She has been taught to fight as well as a man by her twin brother. She is on her way to Edinburgh to save her sister from a forced marriage.

Graham Grant is the commander of the McGregor clan army and a notorious ladies man. The warrior-like Claire is definitely not his type, but he cannot get her out of his mind.

Claire Stuart, informed of the death of her twin brother and the news that her sister is in the control of General Monck, her enemy, is determined to free her from the possibility of a forced marriage. Graham and Robert, Earl of Argyll have a mission to take both sisters to Skye for arranged marriages. They are convinced the general is on their side. Plots and betrayals abound and hopefully things will be settled before the sisters are forced into unwanted marriages.

This is a great story, full of romance and adventure. The author has captured the spirit of the troubled era. Claire is a regular Amazon of a heroine, equal or better than most men in battle and beautiful to boot. Her sister Anne is much more ladylike, but just as strong. Graham is pretty near irresistible and knows it. Robert is a little too earnest for my taste, but perfect for Anne. There are some interesting twists in this fast paced novel and both the love and action scenes will keep the reader’s interest. Set in a volatile time in history the author depicts the era and its conflicts without detracting from a very good story.
