Rosalyn Grant is a fiction author who is also tending her elderly neighbor. When the kindly old lady is murdered, Rosalyn goes to the police station to give her statement, which seems to implicate a troublesome neighbor. While there, Rosalyn meets Lieutenant David MacGregor, who is dating her college friend. But there is no stopping an attraction, and she soon finds herself dating David herself.

David MacGregor is a widower who likes to take things slow. Unfortunately, every woman he meets wants to move too fast. That is, until he meets Rosalyn. After ending things with her college friend, he asks Rosalyn out.

After solving the murder, David and Rosalyn begin dating and dealing with outside influences and conflicts. The blossoming relationship is tested by two of Rosalyn’s friends and a few acquaintances of David’s.

The murder is solved all too soon, leaving not much of a plot aside from Rosalyn and David having dinner, going to parties and having sex. I felt no chemistry between the two, the relationship felt forced. The dialogue is very rigid and British, but the story is set in Florida. All of the characters talked the same, and many words were used that will not be familiar to American readers. The male secondary characters were wonderful and likeable, but it would have been nice for Rosalyn to have made more than two friends as time went on. Ms. Hofman has a wonderful voice for setting the scene.
