Aurora is a government worker on Delfinian who is being matched to a procreator. Her job in the System has given her the privilege to be a birther. That is to be assigned a male to mate with to create a child.
Sullivan is a procreator, assigned to be with Aurora. She is more than an assignment however. Males are necessary but not wanted on Delfinian. This is a female ruled planet so men are basically only good for a few things and one is to help create a life for a female to raise.
On Delfinian, humans have evolved with other species, here it is normal for those of the same gender to be together and in relationships. It is also ruled by females, so males have more token or low level roles, their major one to help produce children. Anyone like Sullivan and Aurora who actually want to be together and fall in love are called Throwbacks and are condemned in the System. With another mixed gender couple, Sullivan and Aurora strike out to escape the System and find sanctuary with legendary other Throwbacks outside of civilization on Delfinian.
This book is much more than what the genre lists. This is an erotica type book with same gender sex, hetero and involving couples also. Not knowing what to expect I want to let readers what it is for those wanting something steamy. This is an interesting view of a world that is celebrating their human origins but also abhor their mating traits at the same time. Choosing who you want to be with or love is the core of this story, governments should not tell you or force you into who you can be with. Successfully beating the system is the message Sullivan and Aurora tell us.
