Staff Sergeant John Blake has been deployed to Iraq after two tours. One day John overhears one of the solders named Jazzy commenting about a romance novel he is reading. He also happens to be email pen pals with the author, Summer Winters. A few days later, John and his platoon are out on a mission in which they are attacked. Jazzy becomes hurt and John takes it upon himself to email Summer. John then begins his own email relationship with Summer, but theirs becomes more emotional and later on sexual.

Maureen Mullen, a.k.a Summer Winters despises her job in a publishing house, but her one joy is writing to her pen pal. However, when John Blake begins emailing Summer her feelings for him become more than friendship. Maureen has not had a lot of experience with love over all, and now this bigger than life man wants to try dating her over the internet.

As John and Maureen’s relationship grows, they are both falling love. Their need to be in each other’s arms has become overpowering. Through emails and on-line conversations, John and Maureen’s relationship becomes emotional from the very start even though there is no physical love between then until the very end.

This story by Cat Johnson is a delightful read. I was surprised to find myself so involved in their story considering these two characters do not actually meet and consummate their relationship until the very end. I did wish they would have had a more physical interaction sooner but overall the across seas dating cemented their overall feelings for each other. I found myself rooting for these two lonely souls. This is a nice read for any who enjoy long distance relationships and the importance of finding true love through letters and writing.
