Sally Wheeler thought when she met Luke Wheeler, their love would last a lifetime. She quickly learns it was the worst mistake she ever made in her life. When Luke leaves with their son, Matthew, deserting her and their daughter, she heads to Texas with a vengeance.
Robert Truman, Rob, wants Luke. Because of Luke, he served time in prison for a crime he did not do. Now Rob seeks retribution and he does not care who gets in his way. He never figured Sally to be a part of the equation.
Sally is crushed when she learns Luke has left her, taking their son with him. She luckily runs into Ozzie Moss, who was on her first wagon train eight years earlier. Surely he will help her reach Texas. Robert is searching for Luke. He wants revenge on the man who wronged him. His travels take him to Sally where he learns she is headed to Texas. Neither Sally nor Rob trusts anyone, but they decide to travel together until they reach Luke. As their path encounters obstacles along the way, can they learn to trust each other or fall victims to chaos along the way?
I absolutely enjoyed A Desperate Journey. It is filled with trust issues, evil people, betrayal, and even love and romance sprinkled along the way. The plot is wonderfully woven with some twists and turns I never expected. Debra Parmley produces an outstanding read that pricks the heart. She sketches a strong and determined woman with Sally, giving her backbone and courage. Ms. Parmley takes two wounded characters and mixes in just the right elements to repair the hurt that has been thrown their way in this well-composed drama.
