Leah Bradley is an excellent teacher, but her love life is a complete failure. She has had six assignments, and has netted some truly wonderful friends but no one to love. Ten assignments are all she has to endure and then the Committee will finally leave her alone.
James Edwards is so fed up with his life. His heart still aches with the pain of losing his family and the assignments he has been given have been disastrous.
Leah is grudgingly ready to meet her new assignment. She has been told that James is a bit of handful. He is moody and difficult but deep down a truly good person. James cannot believe his bad luck when he sees his new assignment. Leah is unbelievably plain, but he soon learns that beauty is only skin-deep. She is the most sensitive and caring person he has ever met and she makes him happier that he has been since coming to Sanctuary. They vow to love each other forever, but the Committee has other plans. James and Leah find themselves embroiled in a web of deceit that threatens to crush any chance of happiness they may have. He loves Leah, but is that love strong enough to overcome a reality that neither of them is prepared for?
This is a wonderful story of love, friendship, and the pitfalls of Big Brother. Leah is a pragmatist. She knows how she looks, but that does not stop her from being the best friend that anyone could ever want. James is a beaten man, and just wants to be left alone. Leah shows him that he can love again and that everyone needs a friend to lean on once in a while. Their characters are fantastic and absolutely believable. You really get a true sense of their pains and triumphs as they fight to hold onto a love that will set them both free.
