Jade Broussard lost her parents to an assassin’s bullet at an early age, though she got revenge for that when she joined the NSA. Even though she has retired, forged a new career, found a long-lost cousin, and has a few good friends, she still feels alone, and part of her likes it that way.
Remy Tremaine was recruited by the NSA because of his skills as an art thief. When his past comes back to haunt him in the form of a near assassination attempt, he uses his connection to finally get to Jade, whom he has been obsessing over for years.
Jade is attracted to Remy from the moment she meets him, but she has a strict policy against mixing business with pleasure. However, Remy seems to have only one rule and that is to get what he wants, and that seems to be her, by any means necessary. He is soon tearing down barriers she took years to erect, bringing them much closer than they ever dreamed possible in a very short time. Can a thief convince the woman whose nickname is The Arrow that his slippery past will not get in the way of a relationship between them?
A Breath Away is a taut, action-packed read that always made me wonder what would happen next, and it does not disappoint. This story has it all; humor, suspense, and last, but definitely not least, steamy romance. Remy’s seduction of the strong, yet vulnerable Jade was achingly sweet but intensely erotic as well because when she finally surrenders it is on her own terms. At least, he lets her think it is. He is my favorite sort of hero; witty, urbane, and devilish, and she is my favorite kind of heroine; powerful, yet soft. Ms Etherington has me hooked and I hope she has more of the same sort of vivid, realistic characters that live on in my mind long after I have put the book down to come.
