I am not one to make resolutions…usually. Resolutions always get put aside and forgotten by the second week of the new year. At least that’s the way it works for me. In the eighteen years of our relationship, my hubby and I have NEVER made resolutions. This year, I am going to break with the tradition. You will not find the usual “I will lose weight” or “Exercise more” here because honestly, I am voluptuous and I am okay with that. I am a coward when it comes to certain things in my life so I do have a few “promises” that I will make to myself. If I put them into writing, maybe they will be easier to keep. (My CTR family will help keep me on track.) Here is my list of “promises” that I am making to myself for 2011:
1. I promise that I will finish at least one of the 15 manuscripts I’ve started. (This one shouldn’t be too hard.)
2. I promise that I will find the guts to submit all finished manuscripts to publishers. (This one terrifies me most. I am a gutless coward when it comes to the very thought of this.)
3. I promise to make me priority number one at least one day a week. (With a hubby and five canine kids, this one is harder than you realize.)
4. I promise that I will de-clutter my life. That means saying “No” from time to time. Tossing out things and people who simply are in my life but don’t enhance my life in any way. (Yes, I sound mean, but I have people in my life who simply suck the life right out of me.)
5. I promise that I will set aside an hour a day to meditate. (An hour all for me? Whew, another hard one.)
6. I promise that I will learn to make at least one new Asian dish a month. (This one shouldn’t be too hard. I love Asian food.)
7. I promise that I will get 3 years of photos into scrapbooks. Even the hard pictures that will break my heart because of those I’ve lost in the last 3 years. (Once again, time. Maybe I should have asked for that for the holidays…Time.
8. I promise I will recycle more. This earth is in enough trouble as it is, I don’t need to contribute to it. (This won’t be too hard to keep.)
9. I promise that I will turn off the cellphone, landline and computer on my hubby’s days off so we can have quality time together. (Can anyone say “Withdrawals”?)
10. I promise to re-read my favorite series, The Lord of the Rings plus all of the preceding books. (This will probably take the entire year.)
11. I promise to soften the edges of my harsh side. (Whew! Another hard one. I am a tad to blunt some times. I just believe in speaking my mind. I forget that not everyone wants to hear what I’m thinking.)
12. I promise to be thankful for the mistakes I make. These “mistakes” are often life’s lessons. (Maybe thinking of them as “happy accidents” will help.)
13. I promise to live freely, laugh openly and kiss softly. (Not hard at all.)
Share your “promises” with us! I’d love to hear some of yours for the new year. In case I don’t see you before, HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
