Ms. Hatcher has beautifully written a collection of sixty-two poems that deal with everyday topics and the emotions that go along with them, and then tied them all together with one main theme. “Life”.
The Oak Tree was the poem that captured my heart. Feeling the sadness throughout the entire poem made me understand that as a society, how far we have come, yet how much further we still need to go.
Each poem is wonderful by itself, and then adding the underlying connection between them makes them all the sweeter. You really stop to take the time to find out what the author was thinking when she was writing them, so that you are able to show your true appreciation for each individual poem.
Although I am not an avid reader of poetry, I was excited to read this collection as they were so eloquently written. I could not put it down, and I was intrigued by each poem, not wishing them to end so soon. Art of Innocence will leave you wanting more from Ms. Hatcher.
